Postcards from Queenstown, New Zealand
We planned our honeymoon after our wedding this time last year in the Summer. Through Flight Centre we manage to book some last minute flights to Queenstown and Auckland as well as accomodation and car hire during peak season - booked on a Wednesday and flew on a Friday! It definitely wasn't something easy or affordable to do so we highly recommend booking these things a lot earlier!
We didn't know it until we arrived but it's actually a resort town - majority of the culture is focused on vacationing. Plenty of travel and adventure agents can be found in the town centre and can help you with making the most of your visit.
Our stay was regrettably a short 3 day visit but one of the highlights was canyoning through the canyon of a mountain which involved walking through the bush, zip lining, abseiling, sliding down waterfalls, leaping off cliffs into crystal clear pools of water and floating through the river. It really got the heart pumping and it was such a great way to experience NZ's natural, raw beauty. Fun fact: We canyoned through a location used in a LOTR's film!
Another highlight was our Milford Sound fly-cruise-fly tour. It involved a scenic flight over the Southern Alps of Mount Bondpland, Castle Mountain and Flat Top Peak. Although this was on the pricier side, flying saved us 6 hours than if we had travelled by road to Sound - The view was also incredible!
We're so grateful that we could have these experiences and witness this corner of the world. I hope I can visit Queenstown again some day. And if you are thinking about travelling, I hope this post has piqued your interest to visit Queenstown.
